Mikio Tagusari is a young man who was raised in the Kanto (Tokyo) area. He received a bachelor’s degree in Art from Tokyo Gakugei University in 1977. In his work, Tagusari combines a variety of different techniques to create unique diaphanous designs. He uses gouache (an opaque watercolor paint), crayon and graphite on canvas with an overlay of Japanese handmade paper, or washi. Some have additional paint applied over the washi. Finally the completed artwork is mounted on a heavier backing paper.

These images are not prints--there isn’t any edition. Rather, each piece is a unique and original mixed media painting offering a combination of subtle color and line, soft textural effects from the overlay of different materials, as well as some dimensionality.
