IKEGAMI, Isao

Ikegami graduated from Musashino Art College with a major in Western painting. For twenty years he worked as a commercial designer, and experimented with abstract painting. In 1981 he studied in the United States, and has since been working in the medium of serigraphy, or silkscreen. The precision of his work is typical of many Japanese printmakers, although his subject matter is far more avant garde than most. By creating works that use bold black, red, and artfully shaded grays and blues, he achieves striking images that demand careful study. Of his works, Ikegami says, "I want to create a moment in life." His meticulously executed prints depict a vibrancy and dynamism that deeply suggests the moments to come. Ikegami now lives in Kanagawa and is exploring themes such as the ocean, the air and flying.
