Description

From a famous Kabuiki Theater drama, Kagami Jishi, wherein Yayoi, a young lady of the Shogun’s court, performs the lion dance and becomes so enchanted with the mask she turns into a roaring lion who plays with two butterflies. Note the heavy embossing on her kimono and the luster of powdered mica over the background. An especially complicated woodblock print, beautifully rendered.
