A decorative large fish, usually adorning the top of a jizai kagi–the pothook over a hearth fire in a traditional Japanese farmhouse. This was often a focal point for the home — where the family gathered for cooking, heat and light. The fish is not only symbolic of prosperity and plenty, but also a water symbol to ward off dangers from the fire.
