The artist writes”Fireflies have been declared a “national treasure” in Japan and are integral to the cultural heritage. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer of them around the world. They have fallen victim to insecticides and disappearance of prey and habitat, as well as light pollution which disturbs their life cycle. Presence of lightning bugs is proof of the biodiversity and quality of the night time environment. Let’s preserve it.
