Description

Here the artist is depicting Himeji Castle–the largest extant castle in Japan–viewable from great distances. It is often called Shirasagi (White Heron) because it resembles a bird in flight. The castle was last rebuilt in 1609 and has withstood bombing in WWII and the great Hanshin earthquake of 1995.
