Description

This famous Kyoto sight was originally built in 1397 as a villa, and later became a Zen Buddhist temple. The current version was rebuilt in 1955. The gold leaf covered building is is designated as a National Special Historic Site and is one of 17 locations making up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which are World Heritage Sites.
