Stone statues of Jizo are often found in Buddhist temples, cemeteries and roadside shrines. Jizo is the bodhisattva or god of travelers and children. They are often adorned with bibs, as shown here–usually bright red. These stones have been weathering for many years, hence the softening of their faces. The artist has printed a thin creamy colored paper and then adhered that to the heavier white etching paper.
