Kitayama Sugi is a variety of cedar which grows in Nakagawa, a northern part of the city. It is prized for its vertical growth pattern and was used for building tea rooms and tea houses. Here the artist shows a grove of the trees on the hillside, as well as stacks of cut wood in a lumber yard.
