This is a perfect example of the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi–understated elegance in a pot with a casual indentation in the side and topped with a lacquered lid. I particularly like the red stroke adding excitement to the composition. The artist has lived in Kyoto for thirty years and absorbed much of Japan’s appreciation for subtle beauty.
