CAFES OF SAN FRANCISCO: Basswood blocks for the project were carved in the winter of 1990 and printed in the late spring and early summer of 1991. An average of seven initial blocks with progressive recuttings and from ten to nineteen printing steps were required for each image. The suite was printed on Arches 100% rag paper with watercolors on an antique, hand-cranked Vandercook proof press in an edition of 115.
