Description
This print represents the 75th of the 88 temples on the Shikoku pilgrimage route established by Kobo Daishi (774-835). He also founded the Shingon Sect of Buddhism and established the Zensetsu Temple in 815. I love the gentle rainfall and soft reflections in the wet pavement, and the complex design of layered elements–stone lantern, gate, tall trees and towering pagoda. The figures entering through the gate provide both scale and human interest.
