Description
Himeji Castle in the city of the same name, is the finest surviving example of traditional feudal castle architecture. Initially built in the 14th C, it was entirely rebuilt between 1601 and 1609. It is often called Shirasagi-jo, or White Egret Castle. “Ooishi” is carved into the large stone in front of the torii gate which leads into the shrine honoring the 47 Ronin. I think this is one of Mr. Karhu’s finest designs.
