Description
Illustrated in Miles No. 54. Note the several printings of blacks and grays on the gentlemen’s hats. The anxious look on the face of the client is appealing, as are the bright reds of chair, ring and glasses.

I love the attentiveness of these gentlemen, the subtle five o’clock shadows, and the black on black design in their caps. Miles notes ‘althought there are no metallics or lacquers (the wartime exigencies were upon him) Jacoulet achieved a remarkable richness by repeating his red pigment in a descending triangle.’
