This newest series from the artist depicts decorations made from straw rope that are usually seen at Shinto shrines or on doors entering a home. They are often installed at New Years (hence the tangerine in a net bag) to bring luck and ward off bad spirits. Most are removed after three days. But this one is left hanging all year since the characters read sho mon–or laughter gate.
