Description
The Namahage is a traditional Japanese folk deity and a fearsome ogre-like yōkai from the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture. During a New Year’s ritual, villagers in straw capes and demon masks storm into homes shouting warnings to scare away lazy children and bad luck, while bringing blessings of health, good harvests, and prosperity.
