ENDO Susumu
Born: Yamanashi Prefecture in 1933, died in 2024
Medium: Lithograph
Trained originally as a graphic designer, Endo started creating lithographic prints in 1979. By 1992 the subject matter became focused on objects from Nature, rather than the earlier designs of light bulbs, pencils and bottles. He derived his images from a single photograph, manipulated on a computer in his studio. Many of his prints have a sense of mystery, with light being an important element highlighting grass, water and trees
Endo prized himself on being untraditional in his approach to printmaking, and created several new techniques of lithographic design. He introduced digital photography and new plate-making techniques. His work is found in numerous collections from around the world.
